Oystrick always first on the ice ”since I was 7 years old”
Canadian defenceman Nathan Oystrick is among the most durable on the team. In addition, you´ll not find a harder working player. He is almost always the first one on the ice for games and practices to make sure he´s ready to work, and he does all drills at full speed in practice. His approach should be a model for all players.

How would you describe the practices run by Václav Sýkora compared to former coach Jandač?

It´s still only been a few days since the change. A lot of the drills have been quite similar. We´ll see.

Do you think that he´ll change the team´s style of play?

I´m not sure. So far we haven´t discussed any of that. There will be a few more practices before the first game, so maybe that´ll help us. But I personally think that the system of the game won´t change too much.

I´ve heard from other players that you tend to be on the ice first before games and practices. Is that true?

It usually is. I try go onto the ice early and shoot a few pucks. I´m usually out there about fifteen minutes early. I´ve done that since I was seven years old when my dad was always telling me to get on the ice quickly and now it´s a habit. It´s better that way. A little warm up, skate around and stretch my arms and legs. I also try to work on some technique.

Do you practice sometimes in the evenings or after games?

Not really. After games I mostly spend time in the gym or on the treadmill trying to regenerate muscles especially for the next game.

What do you to to relax after games or practices?

Often I just go home. I sit down with my wife and our dog and cat. Just watching movies and various TV shows, mainly comedies. I like the movie Dumb and DumberI could watch it almost every day. I also try to sleep a lot.

And what do you think of your mustache? Like it?

Me yes, but my wife hates it (laughs). The last three years I have let it grow regularly.

Do you plan to keep it even after Movember?

I´d really like to, but I still think that when I fall asleep, the wife´ll take the clippers and shave it off (laughs). I certainly don´t mind the mustache, it´s fun, but it certainly isn´t the nicest looking thing in the world.
